About

Kingstons is a Quantity Surveying, Project Management and construction cost consultancy providing a complete range of professional services for the construction industry in New Zealand. Whether you require professional advice at the inception of your development, have to prove its value to investors, or require stringent cost control throughout your project, Kingstons is the firm that will work with your team to realise your aspirations.

When James A Stewart, who had trained in Scotland, arrived in Wellington in 1905 he was one of New Zealand’s first quantity surveyors. He worked in Wellington and Auckland, both in private practice and for Fletcher Construction, before being appointed by the New Zealand Government as one of two quantity surveyors for the Auckland district during World War II.

Post World War II, James and his son Robert established the Auckland practice of James A Stewart & Son, Peter Kingston joined the practice in 1951 as a cadet and became a Director in 1965. He grew to become one of the most experienced quantity surveyors in New Zealand.

Kingston Partners – established in 1974 by Peter Kingston, Jeff Hancock and Michael Daly – grew out of the James A Stewart practice. The current Directors have a direct lineage to the original Partners and have been part of the business for over 30 years.

In response to the high demand for us to expand our list of services, Kingstons Project Management Limited was established in 2015 as an auxiliary of Kingston Partners Quantity Surveyors. Within the last two years we have grown to a solid team of experienced Project Managers and have taken on a wide range of residential, tertiary and commercial projects.

Kingstons now has a team of over 45 highly committed professionals. We maintain offices in Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch and are able to service projects throughout New Zealand. We strive to ensure resources, knowledge and expertise from all of our offices are shared, making sure that every project is given the very best level of knowledge and expertise that our practice can offer. Kingstons remains an independent practice, having resisted the overtures of several international groups to merge.

Today, as in the time of James A Stewart, we enjoy long-term client relationships and aim to provide our clients with sound independent professional advice on all matters relating to cost, timing and execution of construction projects, enabling them to meet their project cost objectives and minimise their risk.

We strive not only to protect our clients’ interests, but equally to maintain a fair and equitable relationship between all parties involved in the construction project, valuing high professional standards, ethics and integrity.

Kingstons has a long and successful history in the New Zealand construction industry, with a strong reputation built over many decades of providing quality construction advice to its clients. It’s this reputation, which we all work very hard to maintain and enhance, that sets Kingstons apart.
