BNZ Theatre
The BNZ Theatre is located in Central Hamilton, positioned on the banks of the Waikato River as part of the city’s wider cultural precinct revitalisation. Completed in 2026, the purpose-built facility replaces the former Founders Theatre and delivers a landmark performing arts venue designed to an international standard.
The development comprises an approximately 8,500m² mixed-use theatre complex, centred around a 1,300-seat auditorium capable of operating in multiple modes, including theatrical, orchestral and contemporary performances. The design integrates modern performance technology with heritage elements, including the restoration of the historic 1923 Hamilton Hotel façade and incorporation of original architectural features.
The facility includes high-quality front-of-house spaces, multi-level foyers, and indoor and outdoor gathering areas that connect to surrounding public spaces and hospitality offerings, creating an activated cultural destination within the city centre. The project has been developed to support a wide range of international productions, alongside local community and performing arts groups.
