“Coming into the project at this challenging time presented a range of unique complexities”
Kawarau Falls Station is a lakefront resort village set on a 6.5-hectare north-facing hillside site that rolls down to meet the shores of Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown. With views of the surrounding mountain ranges, the lake, and The Remarkables to the east, the resort village comprises in excess of three hundred apartments, hotel suites and private residences contained within four individual complexes. Spas, gymnasiums, restaurants, cafes and retail space complete the development.
Kingston Partners involvement on this project commenced following the development being placed into receivership under the control of liquidators KordaMentha New Zealand. Kingston Partners were approached by project funders Bank of Scotland in February 2010 to assume the role of bank quantity surveyor.
Coming into the project at this challenging time presented a range of unique complexities. The entire project budget had to be analysed and reassessed in respect of existing financial commitments, to take the project through to its successful completion.
Whilst our main focus was reporting to the project funders, we were required to collaborate closely with the liquidators, design teams, local Council and construction teams. Constant cost assessment and forecasting throughout the remainder of the project ensured that the project maintained financial integrity, whilst providing the financier with a succinct and reliable flow of information upon which to base their decisions.
